Shehla Rooney, PT

Geriatric Specialist | GCS, FDN-1

Shehla’s Story:

Shehla received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1997 from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Her career path has been diverse and vast, beginning with providing direct therapy services with a focus in Sports Medicine, from there, progressing to management of rehabilitation programs with a focus in post-acute care, to then Regional Consultant (responsible for 6 states) and eventually starting her own Rehab Consulting Company in 2002.  She provided clinical education, management training, program de elopement and software solutions to Senior management of large chain National Rehab Companies.

This experience exposed her to long-term care and the geriatric population which unbeknownst to her was her passion and calling.  This passion is why she became a Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists.  She has served as a Clinical Mentor and Instructor for GCS residents for the past 7 years.

A note from Shehla:

After practicing as a physical therapist for 20 years, I have learned that the ‘Golden Years’ do not happen by chance but instead by deliberate intent.  My great passion has been figuring out how to help my patients/clients find this intent so they can live the life they want for as long as they want, no matter their age- which may in turn make the ‘Golden Years’ possible!
